With the end of Term 3 in sight, the editorial team wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the contributors to the blog in the academic year 2023/24. We have had a fascinating mixture of themes, topics and contributions. It has been the legal writing equivalent of an “all you can eat world” cuisine buffet. We are very mindful that it takes time and dedication to produce an insightful and original contribution, and are grateful for all of the work that has gone in.
The blog will carry on over the summer period, so if it is something that you are considering doing, please do get in touch. We would be really happy to have a chat if you have any questions about what it involves or how to get started. This is an opportunity open to the whole NLS staff and postgraduate student community. One of its strengths has been in its range and inclusivity, and we would stress that all voices and perspectives are welcome.
For this particular week, as a pre-Bank Holiday diversion, and in recognition that everyone is busy with marking and other pursuits, we have a little quiz. To which famous legal minds can the quotes below be attributed?
1) “It is only natural, of course, that each man should think his own opinions best: the crow loves his fledgling, and the ape his cub.”
2) “If there were no bad people, there would be no good lawyers”
3) “A countryman between two lawyers is like a fish between two cats”
4) “The things that make me different are the things that make me me”, said Piglet, who must have seen quite a bit of honey eaten over the years. If he treated Pooh to some ‘raw honey’, what would be different about it?”
5) “Compromise is the best and cheapest lawyer”
